Light is elemental. It sets the mood, changes the atmosphere, and has the power to make or break the ambience. The designers and artisans at 29 June know that. That’s why you will find that our lighting solutions are creative yet functional and innovative yet practical. 29 June was born out of a vision to make contemporary lighting solutions accessible to everyone, everywhere. We believe that great design and perfect lighting can create magic in your living spaces. Try us out and see for yourself.

Why 29 June?

June signals the beginning of the monsoon season in India; a time of free-spirited dancing, joyous festivals, and elaborate feasting. Every year, June 29th is when the monsoon officially begins in North India, where we are situated, and it is a day of much gaiety. Our artful light sculptures crafted out of paper aim to bring the joy of the monsoon to your rooms from the moment you flip that switch. Let every day be 29 June, wherever you are.

Our Products

Natural patterns meet traditional curves meet contemporary lines. 29 June blends these key elements to form sculptures of light that are gorgeous, yet functional and have the fluidity to fit into any space. Be it your home, your workplace, or your wedding, our handmade lanterns, string lights, and other accessories are designed to aesthetically please. You will find that 29 June uses white predominantly, a colour that allows light to shine bright at all times. Pure white means pure light.

Our lights are crafted by talented artisans. They are rigorously trained by our designers to bring intricate patterns to life. Artisans pleat, crease, and fold paper, moulding them to beautiful, three-dimensional pieces. They can also be conveniently folded flat when not in use. But we don’t see that happening much.

Respecting the Environment

We believe in leading a sustainable and environment-friendly life as much as possible. This translates to our work as well. We use normal paper but also use a lot of handmade paper manufactured from cotton rags. Our workspaces are designed to let in maximum natural light whenever possible. We harness the abundant Indian sunshine for solar energy. We harvest rainwater and we recycle diligently. We do all this and more. Because nature is inseparable from our art.

Our People

29 June is all about people. We take special care of not just our customers but our craftspeople too. We have highly skilled artisans from small villages all over India, many of whom are women. We enable all our artisans to have a better quality of life through financial and social support.  Happy employees. Happy us.

And that includes me, Varun Sharma, the Founder of 29 June. I had been in the lighting industry for a few years before I started 29 June. In that time, I attended many international trade shows and spoke to numerous consumers across the world. I began to see a pattern. Almost everyone I spoke to was looking for three things - great quality, small quantity, reasonable prices. That’s how 29 June began.

Our Logo

We, at 29 June, are a passionate lot. We love our craft, and nothing but perfection is good enough. We think the devil is indeed in the details, and can spend hours getting that fold just right. Our logo is a reflection of who we are and what we do. Notice the smooth lines that curve ever so slightly? That’s the confluence of form and balance; a blend of geometrical precision and free-flowing edges. Exactly like our products that are contemporary classics. The emblem above the name of our organization is designed to look like a decorative pool of light within a space, signifying our range of products. The text is based on the “Gurmukhi” script, native to North India. Minimalistic, elegant, and chic. That’s us.

The Process

29 June is synonymous with excellence. Our products look and feel the way they do because our extensive quality controls begin right at the source. We source our paper from global manufacturers. Our designers, who are graduates from prestigious design schools in India, conceptualize and produce designs using advanced graphic design software. They then meet with artisans to make the illustrations come to life. Artisans undergo rigorous training for six to twelve months before they officially work on products. Once the design is finalized, the artisans use die cutting tools to mould paper. Every fold and crease is carefully shaped by the artisans themselves using their hands. Lastly, they paste the edges and corners together with glue to hold the shape. Detailed checks and follow-ups ensure perfection every step of the way. Select from our wide range of products. That’s easier said than done.
